Krav Maga (“contact combat” in Hebrew) is an effective, modern, and dynamic self-defense and fighting system. It is practical and intuitive for people of any age, shape or size. Training in Krav Maga is intended to help avoid and survive worst case scenarios. There are no uniforms, traditions or elaborate choreographies. According to Krav Maga Founder Imi Litchenfeld, we train in Krav Maga “so that one may walk in peace.”
Ken Richstad opened the first Krav Maga studio in Raleigh on October 13, 2008. Krav Maga Raleigh (KMR) is not just martial arts; it is a friendly, supportive community. Krav Maga is the easiest form of martial arts to learn, yet it provides a really intense workout. Staff members are trained at the Krav Maga Institute in Los Angeles, ensuring that staff are tested and approved to teach across the various student levels. KM levels mirror a belt system. By level 7, students have achieved the coveted “black belt.” Krav Maga classes are co-ed and offer students the flexibility to rotate in and out of different level classes that they have mastered. KMR also offers a series of women’s self-defense classes, as well as workshops. Additionally, KMR offers weapons defense classes, with the most popular being handgun defense. KMR also provides law enforcement and military classes and workshops, which further sets apart KMR as the go-to studio for advanced training and fitness.
“Embraced by the FBI and SWAT teams alike, Krav Maga is also a staple of high-end gyms across the globe, where a faster-paced and less-combative version provides a workout that could literally save your life." TIME Magazine
