This man is committed to his workouts.[/caption] Last night I participated in the 7:30 fitness class. It had been a long time since I'd take one of those classes, because at 7:30 I'm usually either teaching or eating cake, so there was always a schedule conflict. But I have resolved that this is the summer of fitness for Krav Maga Raleigh, and that includes me. The workout du jour was sandbags and stairs, one of the longest running and most fondly viewed workouts we do at KMR. It involves hosting a sandbag on your shoulders and running it up and down the stairs of the parking deck behind the studio. Last night's variation was to go one lap with the sandbag, one lap without, alternating between a heavier, slower trip and a faster sprint. It's challenging workout, but like all of our fitness classes, it's accessible to anyone willing to work hard, even if your conditioning level isn't that high. Some of us were racing up and down the stairs as though gravity were on vacation. Others...were me. Obviously I have some catching up to do, but it felt great and I'm enjoying the stabbing sensation in my calves with every step I take. So thank you Kim for a great class, and to everyone else running up and down the stairs with me. I plan on taking many more of those classes this summer, and I hope that all of you at Krav Maga Raleigh will keep me company.
