[caption id="attachment_3494" align="aligncenter" width="775"] It's actually kind of comfortabzzzzz[/caption] I watched most of the UFC 196 main card last night, staying up all the way until 12:34am to see Holly Holm - a phenomenally talented striker who has used her striking and footwork to defeat one of the best grapplers in the sport - get choked out by Miesha Tate. Miesha Tate is a great fighter who was known to have an advantage on the ground, but most people thought Holly Holm would be able to win the fight standing. If the whole fight card had moved a little quicker I might have stayed up to watch Connor MacGregor - a phenomenally talented striker who has used his striking and footwork to defeat one of the best grapplers in the sport - get choked out by Nate Diaz. Nate Diaz is a great fighter who was known to have the advantage on the ground, but most people thought Connor MacGregor would be able to win the fight standing. At the highest level no fighter at the highest level can be better at everything than his or her. MMA has a fascinating meta-game where different abilities come and go as dominant skills. And MMA is not like Krav Maga, and all we will do by trying to copy it is lose focus on our own self-defense. But it definitely shows that fights can go anywhere, and they can be won and lost everywhere. Krav Maga doesn't have a huge focus on ground fighting but we do have it in every level. And hey, at Krav Maga Raleigh we have ground fighting classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays so you can get some extra training. The fact that ground fighting is a lot of fun is just a nice bonus!
